Real Madrid’s Zlatana Ibrahimovic is set to join Werder’s second division team.
The Sweden international, who has a contract with the Spanish side until 2019, will join Bundesliga side Bremens, sources close to the player told Sport Italia.
According to the sources, the 20-year-old has agreed a contract worth €25m and has been offered a five-year deal worth €30m per year.
Ibrahimovic, who scored 29 goals in the Bundesliga last season, is expected to sign a new deal with the club in the coming days.
Bremens will be based in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and will play their home games at the Stadion Rhein-Main.
It will be the first time that the club has played in the second division since the start of the 2014-15 season.
“We have a great relationship with Zlatani, we are both very close to him and he’s already in our thoughts,” Werder manager Oliver Baumann told Sport Italia this week.
“[We will] work hard to keep him in the club.
He is one of the best midfielders in the world.”
Baumann has not been able to confirm a deal with any other club for Ibrahimovic, but said he was interested in bringing him to the Bundesliga.
On Tuesday, the defender told Bild newspaper: “I would be happy to be playing in the top flight.”
Ibra is set for a long-term deal in the summer, with a view to him moving to a top-level club after the 2022 World Cup.
